Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has completed the second phase of its astronaut selection under the country’s Human Spaceflight Program, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced Pakistani astronauts on Saturday.
Two candidates advanced after medical, psychological, and aptitude tests at China’s Astronaut Centre (ACC). These assessments followed initial screening in Pakistan and met international spaceflight standards.
The shortlisted Pakistani astronauts will now begin six months of advanced training at the ACC. After this training, one candidate will be chosen to join a mission aboard the Chinese Space Station, planned for October or November 2026.
This collaboration follows the Astronaut Cooperation Agreement signed in February 2025 under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan became the first foreign partner in China’s astronaut program, highlighting strong cooperation between the two countries in space research.
Additionally, SUPARCO officials said Pakistan plans to participate in a Moon-related mission in 2026 with Chinese support. They added that this program will help build the country’s scientific and technological expertise in space.
